It's My Anniversary and I'll Run If I Want To!

Happy Runniversary to Me!!!

On this day, exactly 1 year ago, I decided I'd go for an easy run. I walked for 2 minutes, ran for 2 minutes, and repeated that cycle for 30 minutes. I was completely oblivious I'd end up here, a running addict. It's been an amazing journey and I can't wait to see what the upcoming year has in store for me. I sense that it is going to be amazing!

My day began like any other. I woke up at 6, ate Life Cereal & jelly toast for breakfast, went to work, and ate some more. Then, around 11, I saw an amazing update appear in my Facebook news feed.

I won a free entry to the Frederick Half Marathon! How's that for a Runniversary gift!? Even though I already had paid for my 2013 entry, I can actually apply this to next year's half! Sounds good to me!

I also received another gift...one that I actually bought myself....

I really cannot wait to take a bite into a Samoa cookie. It's been too long! I'm thinking about eating some with a glass of wine. This is perfectly acceptable when it's your running birthday!

Upon my arrival home from work, I immediately jumped on the treadmill and went on a 7 mile run. I was really looking forward to a trail run, but the weather called for rain! But Friday is supposed to be clear and I'm off work! Woo!

Anyway, I tried to implement more of the ChiRunning strategies I learned. I must say, I zoned out for a good 10-15 minutes as I completely focused on running with my center. It was very soothing for me. Also, I learned how to relax my feet. Danny Dreyer described this technique as "peeling" your feet off the ground like it was a fresh stamp being peeled off the paper. As I was peeling away, I noticed that my hips were extremely loose and it felt really good. Though, when I caught myself thinking too much into it, I'd tense up.

It is definitely a work in progress, but I have so much time to practice and incorporate ChiRunning into all my endeavors. I've only been running for one year and I have plenty more ahead of me!

How did you start running? Was it for weight loss? Fun? Sports?

Have you ever won anything?

Do you love Girl Scout cookies? Which is your favorite?
