Running on the Catwalk

When you are a runner (a female runner in particular), shopping can be really expensive fun. There are some great products on the market today there that offer so many comforts and conveniences, but doing so with fashion in mind. We all still want to look/feel good in a run, right ladies?

One of my favorite running outfits/color combo

Sure, we may look sweaty and are hair is unkempt by the end of our run, but our apparel plays such an important part in how we run, from clothes that make us warmer or cooler, or socks that help circulate the blood in our legs. We obviously have our shoes, which are key in preventing injuries and improving form. Don't forget the countless accessories that we include to store food, water, phones, mp3 players, etc. We are so lucky that we have so many options in what we wear. Not only be comfortable, but be unique and share our personal fashion tastes.

I used to be somewhat of a Plain Jane when it came to my apparel. I started buying most of my clothing in black. My thought process was, "black matches with everything!" However, when you have every piece of your running wardrobe in black, there's really nothing else to match it with. And you feel left out in races were people are all decked out!

It wasn't until I bought these rainbow Under Armour socks that dressing up for running was fun!

That purchase was shortly followed by my Brooks PureGrit 2s and numerous running shirts that screamed brightly colored fun!

But color is not the only thing that we play with to be fashionable. In fact, there was an item I stumbled across in SkinnyRunner's page that sparked this post.

It's called a Hips Sister. It's your basic fanny pack with a fashionable twist. I thought that this closely resembled the fold over you get on yoga pants (and I love fold over yoga pants), but it is actually a belt you fit around your hips. It can hold all your running necessities, like food, phone, keys, etc.

I currently have a SPIbelt and although I love it, I really can't lug my phone in it and have my Nature Valley bar for fuel. It gets too bouncy.  Yet, this seems big enough to fit both and never bounce because of it's thickness.

I'm really sold on this Hips Sister and will probably buy one in my next pay. I just recently blew a good bit on a new pair of Brooks shoes and a GoPro Camera (future running videos...watch out!)

So...

What does your favorite running outfit consist of? Why is it your favorite?

What's your favorite color to wear on a run?

Do you pay attention to color combinations in your running outfits?

What's your favorite running accessory that's also fashionable?

  1. That last thing I want one my hips, is more things on my hips [read: it's going to be easy for me to have children].

But yes, I do very much agree that creating a fun running style is the best! I find it much easier to create a running wardrobe than a non-running one. :/

    1. Agreed! I think my running clothes are easier to pick out than what I wear to work every day. I spend a good 10+ minutes picking something out sometimes. While with running, I know exactly what to wear.

  2. That belt is EXACTLY what I need! I resorted to stuffing my keys down my sports bra last week - not cool.

WHAT DOES YOUR FAVORITE RUNNING OUTFIT CONSIST OF? WHY IS IT YOUR FAVORITE? Sports bra under a see through, baggy white tank tied at the sides so the air can get in!!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR TO WEAR ON A RUN? Black.. ehhh I need to change that!

DO YOU PAY ATTENTION TO COLOR COMBINATIONS IN YOUR RUNNING OUTFITS? Yes... sometimes :P

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RUNNING ACCESSORY THAT'S ALSO FASHIONABLE? THIS BELT! THAT I WILL OWN!
