I think it has happened again. Yes, the dreaded "I" word that no runner ever wants to cross their minds.
I am talking about INJURY.
Sorry, I don't mean to make many of you cringe, but unfortunately, I think I am currently suffering a minor foot injury. Based on the location of soreness, I believe it is the peroneal tendon (see below the peroneus brevis and peroneus longus).
The pain did not start until hours after my half on Sunday. So I wasn't sure if it was actually from running, or if I did something through out the day. Either way, running has been put on hold for the week. I'm not happy about this, but I don't want to make anything worse. Especially since it doesn't hurt that bad.
I'm trying to make an effort to be more courteous to my body. If a body part says "This doesn't feel good" I have to stop running. I'd rather take a week off then injure myself further. That could result in a couple of weeks to several months off.
Eff that!
It does feel slightly better today, but I will most likely not run again till Saturday. Boo! Though, I'm sure my foot will thank me even though my body is telling me I'm a fat, lazy loser. :(
Now, to lighten the mood, how about some bad race photos from the weekend?
I sorta photo-bombed the girl behind me in the last picture. I didn't notice the camera man on the track and had to dodge him, basically cutting this girl off. Yet, I still managed a slight smile. Haha. But seriously...Sorry runner 304!
I hope there will be more. I am hoping they post the one of me crossing the finish line since I yelled out a good victory "WOO!"
Have you ever had a tendon related injury from running? How long were you out for? What did you do to help heal?
Is it me, or do all running photos look horrific? Do you have any bad running pictures from a race?
I think any time you're exercising and someone takes your picture it looks bad. Lol I've only had about two good hooping pictures.
ReplyDeleteHi, Lindsey! I just discovered your blog and I'm loving it (ginger running solidarity!) I actually had the same injury you're describing (acute peroneal tendonitis) exactly two years ago. The pain manifested hours after a ten mile race. It actually got pretty bad and I wasn't able to walk for a few days. I cross-trained on the elliptical and I went to a sports doctor who confirmed the diagnosis and did some trigger point therapy massage on my legs, all the way up to my hips, which is where he traced the origin of the injury. The massage therapy REALLY helped and I felt about 90% the day after the first treatment. I was out for about a month, but I didn't lose any fitness while I cross trained and, after I saw the doctor, I never saw the injury again. It sounds like your pain is less severe than mine was, so I wouldn't worry about this being an awful, chronic injury. I hope this helped you and that you feel much better asap!

DeleteBut I'm glad others can relate to similar injuries! Though I think I caught mine before it got too terrible. I'm feeling significantly better, thank God!
So glad you're feeling better! I get little tendon twinges all the time and you just have to think positively and let your body do its thing; I always try to act like a kid when I feel an injury come on: if I don't think about it and just expect it to go away... it usually does :) (Ibuprofen is a miracle, too!)
